Under the leadership of Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall, this newest innovation focuses intensely on the seasoning process of the barrel staves.

“With Super Seasoned Oak, we showcase how extended outdoor wood exposure and precise barrel craftsmanship can elevate the spirit, delivering an intensely rich, deeply structured profile that collectors and connoisseurs will instantly appreciate,” McCall said.

While traditional bourbon barrels rely on white oak seasoned in the open air for months or up to one year, the Super Seasoned Oak expression utilizes specialized barrels crafted from staves exposed to the elements for five to seven years. Much like a well-used cast-iron skillet is seasoned and provides a depth of flavor, so too do barrel staves exposed to the weather for extended periods.

This intensive outdoor weathering reduces harsh green tannins, opens up the wood grain, and coaxes out deeply concentrated sugars, imparting a depth of spice, toasted sweetness, and dark fruit complexities to the mature bourbon. The release is presented at 100.4 proof and has an MSRP of $179.99 for a 700ml bottle. It is available in limited quantities at select Kentucky retailers and at Woodford Reserve Distillery starting on September 3rd. It is also available for shipping (to KY, NH, ND, NE and Washington D.C. only) in the brand’s online store as shop.woodfordreserve.com.
